Grasse
Summer holidays, Grasse, France
Here I stayed in the best hotel ever.
Sorry, it's not available to you, I stayed with my brother. :-)
Grasse is situated in the south of France somewhere between Nice and Cannes, just a little land inwards.
The city is famous for its perfume industry.
Fragonard is the most well known factory but they're not the only one there. In the guided tour you learn about what is needed to make a perfume, from the growing of the flowers to the work of the Noses.
The short story: first the laboratory extracts the odorous parts from the flowers and then the Noses make a combination of these odors into a new perfume. So the Noses are the people that really develope the fragrances.
Also the Fragonard museum in the town centre is worth a visit.
Apart from this Grasse is just your typical nice and sunny southern French town. There are no other specific tourist attractions but it's a nice place to stay. It's not a big city but everything is there, little village-like shops, big supermarkets, several types of restaurants, nice mountain villages and nature nearby, beaches within a 15 minutes drive etc.
And for more glamour you can go to Cannes, Nice, Antibes, St. Tropez Juan-les-Pins etc. Cannes is ca. 20 minutes by car, Nice is ca. 50 minutes and the rest of the glamour cities are in between.
